Job Summary:

A unique 6-month opportunity for someone wanting to develop a career in technical theatre but has not necessarily got any professional experience.

The Trainee Technician will work in the technical theatre team, working on a range of activity including Sound and Lighting for professional and community companies, digital film projection and gallery exhibition installation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assisting with the delivery of technical services, and effective provision of resources to meet the needs of incoming companies/practitioners, local arts groups and commercial hirers.
2. Advance preparation of spaces and resources to meet the expectations of incoming companies/practitioners, local arts groups and commercial hirers.
3. Assisting with the efficient and effective maintenance of technical equipment and resources with proper regard for health and safety requirements.
4. Assisting with Operating sound, lighting and digital cinema equipment.
5. Understanding and implementing health and safety procedures

Detailed Job Description:

1. Operation of lighting and sound equipment for professional and local arts performances.
2. Rigging of lighting, sound, stage and AV equipment in Courtyard Theatre, Studio, Long Barn, Gallery and other areas of the Centre.
3. Operating flying equipment.
4. Assisting with delivering a programme of maintenance and development.
5. Operation of digital cinema projector.
6. Working within and keeping up to date with current health and safety regulations.
7. Hanging/installing artwork in the Gallery.
8. Laying out stage and seating arrangements in all spaces.
9. Carry out his/her duties with due regard to the Norden Farm Centre Trust Equal Opportunities Policy and Health & Safety Policy.
10. Any other duties deemed part of the Trainee Technician post or as allocated by the Technical Manager.

Person Specification:

Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

• Some experience in an academic, amateur or professional context of basic technical skills including lighting, sound, stage and AV presentation
• A commitment to developing their skills and expertise in technical theatre
• The ability to thrive in a busy working environment with a fast working pace
• A good level of IT literacy
• A genuine passion for the arts
• Good personal communication skills

• Full driving licence and own means of transport
